Greetings, fellow travelers on this journey they call life. It's a pleasure to be able to illuminate my little corner of the world for you. Allow me to introduce myself. I am called Charles by the people with whom I share my abode. Though, throughout the centuries my kind have been called many different things. I, personally, still cannot understand how it came to be believed that felines were associates with dark powers in the Middle Ages, I certainly do see merit (and truth) in the views that the ancient Egyptians took of my species.
At any rate - in addition to being a house cat (Latin: Felis Felis), I am, more specifically, a Siamese. We are a noble and venerable breed, known for our beauty, poise, sophistication, and voice. One doesn't want to brag, but I do believe I possess many of these noble traits. For years I thought I had been short-changed when it came to my vocal powers. My meow was adequate, but I couldn't seem to achieve the melodic caterwaul for which Siamese are famous. Lately, however, I have begun practicing this skill - mostly in the wee hours of the morning. Something about the stillness of the house and beauty of the moonlight inspires me. So far, it has been met with much acclaim, as my people are so moved by my serenade that they awake just to listen and add their own loud accompaniments. (Theirs, I believe, need more practice, as they tend to be too sharp, harsh, and guttural. But, after all - they are not even cats, let alone Siamese.)
These late-night rehearsals are often my most energetic endeavor, these days. I am what some might refer to as a senior cat - nearly 13 1/2 years old. I recall my kittenhood fondly, especially since I was an only cat for several years. Apparently my companionship provided much pleasure to my humans, as they decided to continue to increase our family size throughout the years. Since I've arrived, three children, three other cats (though not a one is purebred), and a dog have joined us. (Thankfully, the dog didn't last long.) Sometimes I long for the days where all the laps belonged to me, but I have made my peace with the additions we have made to the family. Truthfully, however, I sincerely hope there are no more to come. I'm not sure how much change I can tolerate now that I am an older fellow and rather set in my ways.
I do so appreciate you taking the time to listen, and I hope to be able to <blurp> write more in future. For now <plehhh> I must be <glurrrrg> going, as I sense a <hoink> hairball coming. Please excuse me <gaaaaaack> for the impertinence. <glarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp>
Yours,
Charles
