Book Review

I decided, after being humiliated by a recent incident involving cups, a ball, and the imbecile known as Shane, that it would behoove me to try to find some solace in a good book. While considering all of my options, I happened to stumble across a copy of Pride and Prejudice that had clearly been left in my path to make a point. I still haven't deciphered who the culprit was in this heavy-handed prank. Mark my words, though - I will.

I do admit to having a certain level of pridefulness. However, anyone with a similar pedigree, IQ, quick wit, and patient nature would almost certainly also feel the same way. One cannot help one's excellence, after all. As for prejudice - I suppose some could accuse me of this fault as well, though I prefer to think that my opinions are based on a highly-developed, informed insight, rather than prejudice.

At any rate - the most mature response I could think of to this anonymous slight was to read and thoroughly enjoy the book, which I did. Though I found it to be a bit more emotional than Sense and Sensibility (which, clearly, is more in keeping with my personality), I appreciated the restraint Austen showed in plot development pacing, and the innate strength of the main character. Overall, it was a good read.

When I was finished with the book, I returned it to the place from whence I had discovered it. Sadly, my digestive discomfort chose that moment to kick in. Believe me when I say that I take no pleasure in having besmirched a piece of thoughtful literature with my emesis. However, if the one who left it there for me as an insult in the first place happens to find it and take my guttural graffiti as some sort of response to his childish actions, I certainly wouldn't argue.
