Today is the anniversary of the birth of the lady of the house. My, but that is a mouthful! As a gentleman, I will not divulge her age, though it is safe to say that she is less than half as old as I am, using ages adjusted for common lifespans, of course.
I always considered the celebrations of birthdays to be a curious habit among humans. It seems to me that the passage of time is something one usually mourns, rather than celebrates. There is, however, something generally hopeful about the tradition. Perhaps it is appropriate - even beneficial - to look back at one's past year and celebrate achievements, while at the same time looking forward at the good things to come.
I do so hope that the matriarch of our little clan has a good next year. The past twelve months have been a challenge - with new jobs, a move, and changing responsibilities. I daresay that, though I miss the lovely hobby farm we used to live on, I like living in this snug home in town even more. I believe that the lady does as well. I don't know if I've ever seen her happier, to be honest. To that end, I'd say she has a lot to celebrate from the time gone by, and even more to look forward to. Here's to you, Ms. Matriarch - may the months to come be as kind to you as you have been to me.
All My Affection,
Charles
